What autopathy is

A home method in which a person’s own breath, saliva or “prana” is diluted in running water and a few drops are put on the forehead.

The method in one paragraph

Autopathy (Czech autopatie) was set out as a system in 2002 by Jiří Čehovský, a Prague homeopath practising since 1980. The person who will use the preparation puts a trace of their own body into a purpose-made glass flask, the autopathy bottle: saliva spat into the funnel, breath bubbled through a little water, or, in the later “prana” methods, nothing bodily at all, only the bottle held above the head. A measured volume of clean water is then poured through the bottle. Water flows in through the funnel, swirls through a round chamber at the bottom and out of a side tube, so the original trace is continuously diluted. When the pouring stops, a few drops of what is left in the chamber are put on the middle of the forehead and allowed to dry. The rest is discarded. Nothing is swallowed. Instructions

What it does

In the method’s framework the preparation works through information, not through the body’s chemistry. It addresses what Hahnemann, the founder of homeopathy, called the vital force (also named prana or qi in the instructions): an organising principle that keeps body and mind in order and, when “out of tune”, lets illness in. The diluted personal information retunes it “on the basis of resonance”, and the person heals from within: mind and mood usually first, then the body. Saliva instructions, PDF

The founder describes autopathy as holistic and diagnosis-free: “In autopathy do not exist any diagnosis… We heal (as in homeopathy or the traditional Chinese medicine) a person’s mistuning of the reception of organizing harmonious life force.” FAQ, 2018

What it is not

  • Not homeopathic remedies. No external substance and no “law of similars” is used; the only source is the person’s own information. The founder’s 2005 book calls it “a new method” that “developed from classical homeopathy”. Books
  • Not urine therapy. Early experiments used urine; the founder reports it “proved to be substantially less effective than saliva” and it was dropped. Breath article, 2010
  • Not a substance you take. The preparation is applied to the skin of the forehead. The founder cites Hahnemann’s Organon for applying high dilutions to the skin.

The three things you decide

Every dose in the literature is described by three parameters, which the founder calls “the optimization of choice of three parameters”. High potencies, 2017

ParameterWhat it meansWhere to read
Form of preparationSaliva, breath, either one boiled, both together, or pranaChoosing a preparation
PotencyThe volume of water poured through, in litresPotency and water volume
IntervalOnce and wait, or repeated daily, weekly, fortnightlyDosing strategies

A fourth, set in advance, decides whether the first three were right: the minimum time you watch before changing anything. Observation period, 2026
